Twin Emperors - Vek’lor & Vek’nilash
Last updated: 7/28/26
This is the first fight you’ll face in SoD AQ40 with real mechanics.
Thankfully, Twin Emps is dramatically simplified over Vanilla. The bosses still have their primary mechanics, but they’re a lot less ‘finnicky’ - you only need one tank for each boss, and they can be any tank class.
In Vanilla, Vek’lor was immune to physical damage and Vek’nilash was immune to magic, which meant DPS would need to swap sides after each teleport to chase bosses down. This is no longer the case. Nobody needs to swap sides unless you need to equalize after deaths (to keep up with adds/mechanics).
The bosses have a shared health pool.
If you have a normal raid, you should divide the raid in half, with one tank, 2+ healers, and half of the DPS on each boss.
If you have a lot of geared players or a very large raid (40), you can put all the DPS on one side and just leave a tank and a couple healers on the other side. This is a little risky due to the enraged/exploding adds, but if you burn the bosses fast enough, it won’t be a problem.
Overall Mechanics
Heal Brother
The bosses must be tanked on opposite sides of the arena, right against the left/right walls. If they’re too close to each other, they will rapidly heal.
Twin Teleport
Every 30 seconds, the bosses will instantly swap with each other. They keep their original threat tables, though, so they must be taunted immediately to keep them from running back.
Vek’lor Abilities
- Shadow Bolt: His primary attack, this makes Vek’lor difficult to position since he’s ranged.
- Arcane Burst: Periodically cast, knocks back anyone in melee range (tanks). Just run back in. Infrequent compared to Vanilla.
- Blizzard: Damages and slows areas randomly. Run out.
- Explode Bug: Occasionally, Vek’lor will target a nearby bug add and turn them into a ticking time bomb. After a few seconds, they will explode, killing nearby players. If you see a giant red bug, run away from it.
Vek’nilash Abilities
- Unbalancing Strike: Cast on the tank, briefly reduces Defense by 100. Similar effect to a Thrash; the tank will take dramatically increased damage for 6 seconds, including possibly being crit. Healers pay close attention to these and have instant-heal cooldowns ready.
- Uppercut: Knocks random nearby players away.
- Mutate Bug: Occasionally, Vek’nilash will target a nearby bug add and enrage them, making them actively hostile. When this occurs, they need to be burned down.
On this fight’s hard mode, your raid will have the following additional debuffs:
Curse of Despair (Rank 3): Raid-wide DoT (curse).
Curse of Decay (Rank 3): Reduces max health of all players by 10%.
Curse of Madness (Rank 1): Eye Tentacles will occasionally spawn, which can cast Mind Flay on nearby players. Focus them down when they spawn.
